Shameless Plug for a Homeschool Site I like :-)

Please forgive my bad typing... I'm stuck in bed with my horrid numb foot, typing on the laptop with the broken keyboard while browsing The Homeschool Buyer Co-op site for ways to earn "SmartPoints," which I can redeem for - hmm... I guess I should go and look at what the incentives are before I go racking these things up.
Anyway, one easy way is simply to mention the site on my blog, which I don't mind doing because it is one way for homeschooling families to save money - sometimes.
Don't waste too much time on the site because it's addictive:  you're bound to find stuff you "can't live without," in which case, you probably won't save much money.
Many offers are on a sliding scale:  the more families buy in, the more savings.  That's how I was able to buy our "Meet the Masters" art curriculum for much less than the official price.  They are also offering a deal right now on Evan-Moor's TeacherFileBox, so if you use a lot of those resources, it might be worth it (though that one is pricey).
Co-op membership is free and confidential, and entitles homeschooling families to discounts from over a hundred educational suppliers. The site offers free information as well, like databases of free curriculum, field trips, and educational contests and scholarships. There's even a summer reading program with real prizes!
I also get a small credit if you visit the site THROUGH the links in this post...  so go right ahead and click anywhere.  ;-)

What do we tell our kids about Chabad and “Yechi”?

If I start by saying I really like Chabad, and adore the late Lubavitcher Rebbe, z"l, well... maybe you already know where I'm headed. Naomi Rivka has been asking lately what I think about Chabad.  She asks, in part, because she already knows how I feel.  She already knows I’m bothered, though to her, it’s mostly about “liking” and “not liking.”  I wish things were that simple. Our little neighbourhood in Israel has a significant Chabad presence, and Chabad conducts fairly significant outreach within the community.  Which sounds nice until you realize that this is a religious neighbourhood, closed on Shabbos, where some huge percentage of people are shomer mitzvos.  Sure, it’s mostly religious Zionist, and there are a range of observances, for sure, but we’re pretty much all religious here in some way or another. So at that point, this isn’t outreach but inreach .  Convincing people who are religious to be… what? A lot of Chabad’s efforts here are focused on kids, including a
