From two small plants last year, they have grown to occupy almost the entire front bed. The foliage is not that beautiful, though it does appear to be big, bold and bug resistant.
I may have to divide this sooner than expected.
You can see a few coleus peeking out here and there. When the persicaria quits flowering, I plan to lop it back mightily and by then hopefully the coleus will have grown in to take its place in the (metaphorical) sun.
I found your blog doing a search on persicaria, 'Firetail'. I've liked the clump a friend of mine has, and got some seeds from her this evening. I'm trying to figure out if I should go ahead and plant some, or wait until spring.

Unfortunately, I have no inspiration on when to plant (depending on where you live, you could probably wintersow if you were interested in that, as it strikes me as fairly hardy).
Mine is spreading slowly but steadily. It isn't a menace, but I'm still not sure if I love it exactly.
It looks a bit too much like the related weeds that grow rampant all over the place here. Bigger, yes, with nice colourful flowers, but still a bit knotty and unglamourous. OTOH, it's probably unkillable, which is always a good thing. :-)
