We found money!

I didn't update my blog, and a lovely reader emailed to offer a loan for Shabbos and Yom Tov.  THANK YOU, AGAIN!  Just when you think nobody's reading...
 
(I'm sick and lazy, and getting ready for Shabbos Party, so I'm just copying/pasting what I emailed her back...so my one other reader doesn't get worried!)
"I need to update because as soon as I finished writing that, I realized that in the back-to-school money frenzy, we had tapped all the family we've got EXCEPT Ted's family.  So he called his sister and arranged a very small loan 'till next Friday.  And, thanks to the wonders of all-night Internet, she emailed it to him right away from her bank account.  He did a small shop last night and will pick up more stuff for Shabbos today.  And as long as the kids keep riding their bikes to school, we'll have enough to scrape through next week, too!!!  :-)))"
So there you have it.  Sigh of relief.

What do we tell our kids about Chabad and “Yechi”?

If I start by saying I really like Chabad, and adore the late Lubavitcher Rebbe, z"l, well... maybe you already know where I'm headed. Naomi Rivka has been asking lately what I think about Chabad.  She asks, in part, because she already knows how I feel.  She already knows I’m bothered, though to her, it’s mostly about “liking” and “not liking.”  I wish things were that simple. Our little neighbourhood in Israel has a significant Chabad presence, and Chabad conducts fairly significant outreach within the community.  Which sounds nice until you realize that this is a religious neighbourhood, closed on Shabbos, where some huge percentage of people are shomer mitzvos.  Sure, it’s mostly religious Zionist, and there are a range of observances, for sure, but we’re pretty much all religious here in some way or another.
