Bumping Up… plus, another FREE LAPBOOK contest!!!

SRUGIEWe’re bumping the difficulty of our “Word of the Day!!!”

Naomi complained that the words were too simple, which is reasonable, so… I’m bumping us up from Word-a-Day Grade 1 to Word-a-Day Grade 3.  No reason why not, right?  They’re both included in our TeacherFileBox subscription, and it’s not like she’s going to miss out on a whole bunch of fabulous “Grade One” words and have to learn them properly before she graduates high school.

So we’re going from this… image to this…  image

If you want to play along, this week’s words are impatient, appliance, appropriate and mumble!

Bonus:  One more free Chanukah lapbook to the first person who posts a comment using ALL the words, as they appear here, in a reasonably good sentence.  Because last night’s contest, I guess, was just too easy for some people – that’s what I get for having readers who are smarter than I am.

Comments

  1. With an impatient mumble, I search for the appropriate appliance.

At first, I thought you meant to write a sentence with ALL the words in the boxes...What can I say, my brain's fuzzy, it's 3 am...

  2. I was so impatient when my appliance started working that I mumbled under my breath, but I was careful to use appropriate mutterings in case mom was in the room.

  3. I actually figured you'd had other comments before mine so I'm surprised! Thank you!

What do we tell our kids about Chabad and “Yechi”?

If I start by saying I really like Chabad, and adore the late Lubavitcher Rebbe, z"l, well... maybe you already know where I'm headed. Naomi Rivka has been asking lately what I think about Chabad.  She asks, in part, because she already knows how I feel.  She already knows I’m bothered, though to her, it’s mostly about “liking” and “not liking.”  I wish things were that simple. Our little neighbourhood in Israel has a significant Chabad presence, and Chabad conducts fairly significant outreach within the community.  Which sounds nice until you realize that this is a religious neighbourhood, closed on Shabbos, where some huge percentage of people are shomer mitzvos.  Sure, it’s mostly religious Zionist, and there are a range of observances, for sure, but we’re pretty much all religious here in some way or another. So at that point, this isn’t outreach but inreach .  Convincing people who are religious to be… what? A lot of Chabad’s efforts here are focused on kids, including a
