This week, I was inspired by three things: 1) everybody kept telling me the poems were getting longer; and 2) big boy had a school assignment to write a sonnet, and I said (famous last words), “I could write a sonnet, too!” So here it is.
We now at the end of B’reishis arrive,
With morals proven and heroes’ fine tales;
Our Avos gone but their children survive,
Though years ahead will bring dismal travails.
Said Yaakov he’d come to his final days,
Reunited with his beloved son.
Hoping to pass along God’s holy ways,
Blessed Yosef’s two boys together as one.
Three of the sh’vatim he said were unfit
So Yaakov could not bless those three, I fear;
But all the brothers, save those he’d omit
Heard blessings, each of the sh’vatim so dear.
“Be a light to the world, your task from above –
Grow into the nation God chooses with love.”
חָזָק חָזָק וְנִתְחַזֵּק!
May learning Torah keep us strong!
