Free city compost day

Kinda sad that I get excited about these things! And disappointed because I already missed three, including one just down the street… (there are still a couple more listed here – scroll down)

It’s from 3-6 p.m. And I was just thinking how terribly inconvenient that is when I remembered that Ted’s off work tomorrow.

Yay! It will happen! (barring really yucko weather – ooh, thunder showers slated to begin around 3)

Phone message from a Big Kid on arriving home from the library tonight: “Dahlia phoned; she said to call her back.”

I don’t know a Dahlia.

(Looked at a few at the plant sale today, however…)

Utterly exhausted from my aerobics class tonight; I swear, she cranks it up several levels of difficulty every single week. I joke that I’m the youngest one in my Tuesday morning class and the oldest in the Thursday evening, but it is probably literally true now and for some reason rather depressing.

What do we tell our kids about Chabad and “Yechi”?

If I start by saying I really like Chabad, and adore the late Lubavitcher Rebbe, z"l, well... maybe you already know where I'm headed. Naomi Rivka has been asking lately what I think about Chabad. She asks, in part, because she already knows how I feel. She already knows I’m bothered, though to her, it’s mostly about “liking” and “not liking.” I wish things were that simple. Our little neighbourhood in Israel has a significant Chabad presence, and Chabad conducts fairly significant outreach within the community. Which sounds nice until you realize that this is a religious neighbourhood, closed on Shabbos, where some huge percentage of people are shomer mitzvos. Sure, it’s mostly religious Zionist, and there are a range of observances, for sure, but we’re pretty much all religious here in some way or another.
