There is a wonderful set...I totally agree with you. There is a wonderful set of books with fantastic illustrations that summarizes the entire Tenach (Bible) in a totally true to the original way. Each volume is one book of the Tenach, beginning with Genesis (Breishit) and ending somewhere with the prophets, megillot, etc, I dont remember exactly. I used to read from these books out loud to my youngest son, and we both loved it. Sorry I cant remember the name or author of this series, but a new one should be published anyway...this is a great place to begin the Jewish literary journey with our young children that might be too young to read the book in the original. The illustrations really help to make the stories come alive.Donnahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10255286665967495757noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21153604.post-10310729109803162992015-01-19T23:01:40.993-05:002015-01-19T23:01:40.993-05:00Considering the books you are talking about are be...Considering the books you are talking about are bestsellers, it is a pretty dismal situation. I see a lot of Jewish books out there that are about living Judaism -- from Orthodox presses like Hachai and Judaica Press, but also from Karben and the like -- but they aren't selling as well. I think the rise of PJ Library is helping things, because the vast majority of their books mention the Shoah not at all and have contemporary settings. But it's definitely worth considering those stats.

Maybe people are getting PJ Library books for free (which I'm happy about) so they aren't buying those titles, at least not from Amazon?

Maybe people are buying the "living Judaism" books from Jewish bookstores or brick-and-mortar establishments like synagogue giftshops instead of Amazon?

Maybe some people would rather read about something that doesn't force them to confront their own commitment to Judaism (because it's "dead" and "old-fashioned")?Rebecca Klempnerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03025213555090266745noreply@blogger.com
