Interesting, on the Torah not being PC - I just wrote about that the other day. Thank you for taking the time to explain in depth.Tziviahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11828930310967808828noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21153604.post-67522847619567078572012-07-24T08:57:34.820-04:002012-07-24T08:57:34.820-04:00our ideology may be sound, but it is not very Jewi...our ideology may be sound, but it is not very Jewish. Unfortunately, I feel damned if I do and damned if I don't, because if I respond to your points, I will end up falling into the dangerous territory of sounding superior. However, if I don't say anything, you might think that I found the points you raised to be valid, and I don't. I also think that while I could go on and on, nothing I could say, would change your opinion. It is very hard for BT's and gerim to get it out of our (yes, I am a BT) heads the ideas we were raised with. I also think true Jewish ideas are not something commonly taught to these groups, for there is a lot to learn in so many areas, and truthfully, most BT's and gerim wouldn't take some of the information well. The Torah is not PC, it is racist, it is violent, it is vengeful, it is exclusionary. However why would Hashem choose the Jews and write about the Jews if not for their superiority. Yes, children don't "deserve" everything they get either and many times we are faithful to them, even when they do wrong (just at parents who stand by their murderous children, lehavdil). That's just the nature of parent-child relationships and unconditional love. The Torah is the story of the Jews, not the story of the world. And, I don't think believing this is supremacist, for anyone can become a Jew.Dinanoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21153604.post-53149904755048866162012-07-22T22:48:20.048-04:002012-07-22T22:48:20.048-04:00@Dina - thanks for stopping by!
I believe what i...@Dina - thanks for stopping by!
I believe what is special about the Jews is Hashem. The fact that he picked us, perhaps through the zechus of Avraham, because He made those promises basically sight unseen, knowing we'd be unworthy.
Throughout sefer Bamidbar, we see that the majority of bnei Yisrael didn't *deserve* everything Hashem gives them, but by virtue of that zechus, and because He keeps His word, He remains faithful even when we are most grievously unfaithful.
I believe this is ideologically sound, and I think it's dangerous territory to suggest that we are superior on any other grounds. Certainly not biologically, ethnically - which is what I've unfortunately heard from various yeshivas around town. Spiritually? YES! 100%!!! If we are true to our mission, we have the potential to surpass anything the world has ever seen spiritually.
Yet I believe that hasn't happened yet - that's what moshiach is all about.
Please feel free to set me straight anytime!Tziviahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11828930310967808828noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21153604.post-22096227226386958782012-07-22T22:08:13.945-04:002012-07-22T22:08:13.945-04:00Really??? If you haven't already read, Awake my Glory or Behold a People by Rabbi Avigdor Miller, I would highly suggest them for a thorough understanding of Jewish ideology.Dinanoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21153604.post-76610987525375761242012-07-21T22:11:41.752-04:002012-07-21T22:11:41.752-04:00I think the key to surviving bad Yeshiva/Day Schoo...I think the key to surviving bad Yeshiva/Day School/Hebrew school, IS having good role models in your parents. I don't mean the do everything to the T, never make a mistake kind of parents. But parents who try to maintain a positive outlook on everything in life, no matter what adversity comes their way, and the kind who persevere, even after they fail and fail again.
Just my two centsChana Beilanoreply@blogger.com
